loosestrifes

genus Lysimachia

Member of cape myrtle subfamily (subfamily Myrsinoideae)
primrose family (family Primulaceae)
dicots (class Magnoliopsida)
flowering plants (subphylum Angiospermae)

Except for extremely rare examples that I don't expect to encounter, there are no other wild species of this genus in the bay area.

They all look pretty different from each other, so no key is necessary.

There are also loosestrifes in the unrelated lythrum loosestrifes (genus Lythrum).
